What is osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis (OA), also known as degenerative joint disease or arthritis, is the bodies response to cartilage damage in one or more joints. There are many causes for OA from instability of a joint (hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament tears, patellar luxations), trauma (joint fractures, OCD, fragmented coronoid), autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthrtitis), and chemicals (research models).
Osteoarthritis is generally managed and not curred, unless the joint is replaced. The management of OA is multi-modal, meaning many different methods are used. Different combinations of treatments may be needed for different patients. Different modes of treatment are listed below.
